Another record over the sea for a pigeon from the Canary Islands

July 16, 2024

It is said that records are meant to be broken, and although it seemed very difficult, the truth is that reality exceeded all expectations. Last Sunday, July 14, 457 Canary pigeons were released at 06:18 (UTC/GMT +01:00) from the city of Sagres, Portugal. The pigeons had a long road ahead of them and the imposing Atlantic Ocean. More than 15 hours had passed and night was falling when the first and only pigeon of the day was announced, recorded at 21:21:58.

The pigeon fanciers Anibal Guerra and Orlando Collado, on the Island of La Palma received this champion, achieving a colossal feat that was recorded with a total of 1,238 kilometers and an average speed of 1,370 mpm.

Between nerves and joy Anibal could only tell us: "This is a historic moment for pigeon fanciers. The character and spirit of this pigeon are an inspiration for us, it set a new record and shows us the incredible potential of these animals."

The pigeon is a magnificent blue female with an ES23-257005 ring that will now be called “Euro Sagres”, since her victory coincided with the final of the European Football Championship between Spain & England.

Her pedigree features mainly speed pigeons, but with a lot of character to make this epic. She is a direct daughter of Kittel Bull (consanguineous grandson of Kittel VIA Vitor Picanço) and the mother was the 3 AS Paloma of the Derby Carmelo Yupi in the 2021 - 2022 season, daughter of KAJOS (original Jos Thoné) x Supergirl (original by Eijerkamp , direct daughter of
Roulette).

Congratulations to everyone for this great result and also to her club, the Grupo Colombófilo de La Palma, which is now part of history!
